BMW introduced a new data management system Part III

December 13, 2014 at 23:01

Together with other measures to optimize, constant monitoring of the three stands through iEMDS allowed to save more than 100,000 kWh of electricity in the first year. Integration of intelligent energy management in a large information network BMW Group offers a wide range of further options. The first is the identification and prevention of impending failures and stoppages of robots and equipment. For example, the fact that the equipment starts under constant operating parameters consume more energy is likely to damage or wear caused by such factors as the bearings are too tight, which requires additional energy to rotate.

Now the BMW Group introduces iEMDS at sites in Spartanburg (North Carolina, USA), Leipzig, Regensburg, Munich and Landshut. In the plans it had been expanding to other plants of the global production network BMW Group, consisting of 30 plants in 14 countries. BMW Group expects 2020 to reduce energy consumption per vehicle produced by each of at least 45% compared to 2006 levels. By 2013, concern has been able to reduce consumption by 31%. Lower power consumption, increased production reliability and high quality products: all three of these benefits are made possible in factories BMW Group with intelligent energy management information system (iEMDS).
The system is based on the use of intelligent electrical sensors that continuously measure the energy consumption of the production facilities and robots and connect them with a large central information network of the company. Because of this new complex can be successfully integrated with existing systems, recording data on energy consumption of buildings and structures to ensure, becoming their valuable addition. Due to the “smart meters” deviation leading to increased energy consumption can be detected at an early stage. Moreover, these data allow to prevent crashes and even failures of production facilities and robots, thus providing a level of quality required for the production of premium cars.

New prototype of sedan 3-Series eDrive Part II

December 3, 2014 at 19:20

The German BMW company has created a prototype of sedan 3-Series eDrive with rechargeable hybrid (plug-in hybrid). Novelty is based on the new version of 3-Series, which will be presented next year. According to the manufacturer, the use of additional electric allowed to reduce fuel consumption in mixed mode, up to 2 liters / 100 km.
The battery pack is a novelty hidden under the luggage compartment, which had to “sacrifice” a little space for batteries. Recharging takes place from ordinary household network (main use at the same time an extension cord with enough “thick” wire, otherwise it will be like our test drive Mitsubishi i-MiEV).
