BMW introduced a new data management system Part II

Now the BMW Group introduces iEMDS at sites in Spartanburg (North Carolina, USA), Leipzig, Regensburg, Munich and Landshut. In the plans it had been expanding to other plants of the global production network BMW Group, consisting of 30 plants in 14 countries. BMW Group expects 2020 to reduce energy consumption per vehicle produced by each of at least 45% compared to 2006 levels. By 2013, concern has been able to reduce consumption by 31%. Global energy savings thanks to iEMDS should reach seven percent annually. Intelligent energy data management is also an integral part of the BMW Group strategy on sustainable development.

The pilot project start iEMDS held at the factory for the production of BMW X models in Spartanburg. According to experts BMW Group, only this American site saving energy costs by introducing iEMDS could reach 25 million euros over the next ten years.
At the plant in Spartanburg smart sensors were installed in more than 80 units of production equipment and robots.

Just a few weeks after the installation of separate power production capacity has fallen by a quarter. Here is one example: a comparison of three technically identical roller dynamometers has showed that one of them require two times more energy to test sample than the other two. The reason was a programming error in the control system ventilation.
