The rumors about the charged BMW X3 M version appeared in 2012. The BMW representatives have not commented unofficial information all the time. And recently within 2017 Auto Show in Frankfurt, Roland Mayer, the engineer responsible for the X3 series, said in an interview that the charged version was considered. In addition, the test prototypes of X3 M were seen at the Nurburgring in German and in South Carolina, not far from the BMW plant.

The distinguishing traits of the modified X3 model from its standard one are a different spoiler, diffuser and four large exhaust pipes. And such elements as large brake and wheel disks also emphasize that the prototype belongs to the M family. As for the under-hood equipment, there will be installed a 3-liter turbo V6. Most likely, first it will be a motor that is used in the M cars of the third and fourth series (S55). However, BMW Blog says, later the model will be offered with an upgraded unit with S58 index. This motor is created on the basis of V6 B58. At the moment the Germans are only designing it. Forecasts for power vary: from 430 to 500 hp.
