The German BMW company has created a prototype of sedan 3-Series eDrive with rechargeable hybrid (plug-in hybrid). Novelty is based on the new version of 3-Series, which will be presented next year. According to the manufacturer, the use of additional electric allowed to reduce fuel consumption in mixed mode, up to 2 liters / 100 km.
The battery pack is a novelty hidden under the luggage compartment, which had to “sacrifice” a little space for batteries. Recharging takes place from ordinary household network (main use at the same time an extension cord with enough “thick” wire, otherwise it will be like our test drive Mitsubishi i-MiEV).

Driver plug-in hybrid triples can select one of three driving modes: Comfort, Sport and Eco Pro. In the latter case, the electronics reduce the power consumption by disabling the climate system, as well as heated seats and side mirrors, what is really economical.

Currently there are no official information about the timing of the start of sales production version of the BMW 3-Series eDrive. We can only predict that this will happen after the debut of the updated sedan of 3-Series. And we think that it will be not earlier 2016.
