The model i8 at its current stage of development uses electric motors and a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine, and the new M1, is likely to get 600-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. However, some technologies from i8, such as ultra-light carbon-fiber body, and will also be used to create the new M1. This means that the new car will weigh about 1,250 kg, which is much lighter than the 1625-pound Audi R8.
