Bavarians have showed their new eco-friendly achievement – the prototype of the BMW 5-Series GT with the power plant Power eDrive, which cares of nature and produces 680 horsepower and 1015 Nm. The same system in the near future may appear on the flagship models of the brand. The main gasoline 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylider engine develops 230 horsepower and in addition, two electric motors help it, different power – powerful rear and front slightly weaker. The capacity of rechargeable lithium-ion battery is 20 kWh, which is enough for a 100 km drive solely on electric power.

To achieve a given battery capacity, the designers had to divide them into two parts – one is set in the center console, the second – under the seat of the second row. In this case, another “victim” of space optimization has become the fuel tank capacity has been reduced from 70 to 30 liters. However the combined work of all motors, electricity and gasoline, is enough for 595 kilometers.

In the all-wheel drive BMW 5-Series GT main “work” involved in rear engine, while the front is connected with the need for more power. And if that was not enough, it takes ICE, which operates exclusively on the front wheels.
In the future, a top power plant may appear on the flagship models of the brand, such as 7-Seriessleduyuschego generation and possibly on a hybrid version of Rolls-Royce.
