Especially for the Frankfurt auto show, Alpina Company has created D5 diesel version. The standard Alpina D5 S package includes reinforced eight-step ZF automatics, all-wheel drive, Bilstein shock absorbers with an electronic control and 20-inch wheels; the wagon model is also supplied by a rear air suspension. At extra cost a customer can get Sport Plus configuration with active stabilizers, but the rear self-locking differential is not offered.

The reworked 3-liter V6 has new exhaust and cooling systems, turbochargers, intercooler, intake and pistons. The motor is able to deliver only 388-hp but the torque is impressive. The maximum 800 Nm can be generated at 1750 rpm. D5 S in a wagon body shows 4.6-second acceleration time, as for D5 S sedan it takes 4.4 s. The available top-speed of modification is equal to 283 km/h and 286 km/h, respectively.

Designers offered a special design for virtual devices supplied them by a proprietary blue substrate and basic scales with pointers. The driver can also change the finishing for Lavalina leather. BMW Alpina D5 S sedan and wagon were delivered on the European market at a price of 87,900 Euros.
